Patrick Chaloner Lindsey, born in 1920, had only recently joined 601 Squadron when 26 July 1940 proved fatal. Scrambled to intercept Luftwaffe activity over the Channel, he was engaged south of the Isle of Wight and was shot down, likely by Oberleutnant Dobislav of III/JG 27. His Hurricane fell into the sea and he was listed missing until his body washed ashore in France two months later. He was twenty years old.
